Fast Facts: Moose vs. Grand Rapids – April 6

The Manitoba Moose take on the Grand Rapids Griffins in the final home series of the regular season. The Moose hold a 4-1-0-1 record against Grand Rapids and will try to snap a four-game losing skid. Prior to tonight's game, the Moose will honour former captain Peter Stoykewych and long-time goaltending coach Rick St. Croix in a pre-game presentation. Stoykewych played all 267 of his professional games with the Winnipeg Jets organization, including the Moose and St. John's IceCaps. He was the second Winnipegger to captain the Moose. St. Croix spent parts of 14 seasons with the Moose as both goaltending coach and assistant coach. He mentored goaltenders including Connor Hellebuyck, Eric Comrie, Cory Schneider, Wade Flaherty and Drew MacIntyre.

Daniel Score-gersson

Daniel Torgersson potted the only tally for the Moose on Saturday. The goal was the forward’s 10th of the season and makes the Hono, Sweden product the eighth Moose skater this season to hit the double-digit goal mark. Torgersson, a second round pick of Winnipeg in 2020, paces Moose rookies with 18 points (10G, 8A) over 63 games. The winger has 96 shots on goal this season with a 10.4% shooting percentage.

Climbing the Ladder

Kristian Reichel posted a primary assist in Manitoba’s game this past weekend. The Litvinov, Czechia product is in the midst of career-best season, tallying 24 points (9G, 15A) over the course of 58 games. The 2022-23 season has seen Reichel register new career-high marks in assists, points and shots on goal (101). Reichel is also the only member of the Moose this season to score multiple shorthanded goals. The winger sits fourth on the club this campaign with three first goals and is tops on the team with a trio of insurance tallies.

Grounding the Griffins

Manitoba owns a record of 4-1-0-1 against Grand Rapids entering tonight’s match. All four of the Moose wins saw the club record four or more goals while only allowing a single goal against. Five Moose skaters have tallied multiple goals against the Griffins this season, with Alex Limoges, Kristian Reichel and Jansen Harkins co-leading the way with three each. On the goaltending side, Oskari Salminen has paved the path with a record of 3-0-1 complimented by a 1.04 goals-against average and a .962 save percentage. Over the past two seasons, the Moose own a 10-2-1-1 record against the Griffins and have outscored the Central Division rival by a count of 43-25.

By the Numbers

Manitoba enters the final two home games of the regular season with a home record of 18-12-1-3. Looking at special teams, the Moose at home have a power play that is clicking at 20.0 percent and a penalty kill percentage of 82.5 percent. When the power play faces Grand Rapids, the Moose strikes at 35 percent (7/20) and the penalty kill checks in at 88 percent (3/25). When Manitoba leads after the first 20 minutes of play, the numbers trend into 14-5-4-0 and when the antlered ones have the lead after two, the number jumps to 25-1-2-1. If the Moose end up in overtime, the club owns seven wins in the extra frame, which puts Manitoba in a three-way tie for second overall in the AHL this season behind only the Rockford IceHogs with nine.

Moose captain Jimmy Oligny recorded his third assist of the season on April 1. The helper gives him points in back-to-back games and in three of his past five outings. Oligny has appeared in just 11 games after missing 44 contests due to injury. The St. Michel, Que. product has 93 points (17G, 76A) in 459 career AHL games.
