200 in the Books

Evan Polei comes into today’s game with 199 career AHL games under his belt. Polei made his AHL debut with the Bakersfield Condors on April 15/17 against the San Jose Barracuda. The forward recorded two shots on goal and a pair of penalty minutes in his debut. Through 199 AHL contests, the forward has posted 66 points (30G, 36A) along with five-game winning markers. Polei, who is in his second season with Manitoba, currently sits with four points (2G, 2A) through 17 games. He also has a plus-three rating on the campaign. The forward’s best statistical season came in 2021-22 with the Moose when he registered 23 points (11G, 12A) in 62 games while finishing with a plus-eight rating.

Century Mark

Defenceman Declan Chisholm enters today’s contest sitting with 99 games played in his AHL career. Chisholm, a fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2018, made his AHL and Moose debut on Feb. 15/21 against the Toronto Marlies. The defenceman recorded his first professional goal in the contest. The Bowmanville, Ont. product has tallied 53 points (14G, 39A) in 99 AHL games, all with Manitoba. Chisholm currently sits with 10 points (3G, 7A) in 18 contests. He also co-leads the antlered ones with three power play markers and is tied for first in points from the Moose blue line.

Familiar Face

The contest between the Moose and Canucks on Friday evening was the first time Ashton Sautner had seen his former club since signing with the Winnipeg Jets. The defenceman has spent the majority of his professional career within the Vancouver Canucks organization. He suited up for Utica from 2015-20 and played 240 of his 302 AHL contests for the Comets. The defenceman spent last season in Abbotsford and appeared in 41 regular season games and a pair of postseason contests. The defender has tallied three assists in 19 games this season and sits with 65 points (14G, 51A) in 302 total contests.

Give it Up for the Grads

The Winnipeg Jets put together a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night. Of the eight total points the Jets registered on the scoresheet,  seven of them came off the sticks of former Moose players. Cole Perfetti (49 games) scored in the first off an assist from Josh Morrissey (57 games). Blake Wheeler’s power play goal in the second was assisted by Kyle Connor (56 games) and by the aforementioned Morrissey. The third period saw Adam Lowry (four games) pot the tally from Jansen Harkins (162 games) and Morgan Barron (five games).

Leon Gawanke was one of three Moose skaters to record three shots on goals in Friday’s loss against Abbotsford. The defenceman currently sits seventh in Moose scoring with nine points (4G, 5A) in 16 contests. Gawanke, a fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2017, sits with a career total of 78 points (19G, 59A) in 155 AHL contests all with Manitoba.
