The Manitoba Moose close out their quick, two-game road trip to Calgary with a rematch against the Wranglers. Danny Zhilkin and Brad Lambert both tallied for the Moose, but Calgary came away with a 6-2 win on Friday. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Manitoba. AHL Debut
Dmitry Kuzmin made his AHL debut against the Wranglers on Friday night. The defenceman ended the contest tied for second on the squad with three total shots. Prior to making his debut with Manitoba, Kuzmin recorded two points (1G, 1A) in 10 games with the ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals. The defender notched his first North American professional goal Nov. 5/23 against the Maine Mariners. Kuzmin was a third-round pick (82nd overall) of the Winnipeg Jets in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Zhilky Smooth
Danny Zhilkin registered a goal on Friday in Calgary. The forward, who is in the midst of his rookie AHL season, is now up to six points (2G, 4A) through 18 games. Zhilkin, Winnipeg’s third round selection in 2022, ranks fourth among the club’s rookie skaters in terms of points and is currently tied for eighth among all Moose players. Zhilkin, who signed a three-year entry-level contract with Winnipeg in 2022, has recorded two or more shots in six of his past seven games and has only been held without a shot in just three of his 18 outings this season.
On the Cusp
Artemi Kniazev notched a third period assist against the Wranglers. The defenceman, who was acquired in a trade this summer with the San Jose Sharks, has assists in consecutive games. That matches his longest point streak of the 2023-24 campaign. The 2019 San Jose second round pick has five assists in 16 games and is tied for second in scoring among Moose defencemen. The Kazan, Russia product is on the verge of notching his 50th career AHL assist and stands with 61 points (12G, 49A) over the course of 137 contests between San Jose and Manitoba.
Firing Up the Power Play
The Moose aim to rebound on Sunday against Calgary. Getting back in the win column starts with the power play, where the team has been unsuccessful in six chances over the past two games. When the Moose notch a power play goal on the road, the squad has a record of 3-1-0-0. In addition, the Moose have wins in both games the power play scored twice on the road. When the Moose fail to convert a power play marker on the road, the record sits at 2-3-0-0. Manitoba’s man-advantage currently ranks fourth overall in the AHL at 22.6 percent and has scored 14 goals over 62 total opportunities. Lambert, a 2022 Winnipeg first round pick, is fourth in scoring on the Moose and ranks second among the squad’s rookies. Additionally, Lambert is tied for 11th place in the AHL rookie scoring race.
