The Manitoba Moose try to make it three in a row as they end a four-game road swing tonight in Calgary. The Moose grabbed their second straight win on the strength of a 4-1 win over the Wranglers on Tuesday. The Manitoba win put a halt to Calgary's six-game winning streak. Dominic Toninato scored his first goal of the season in the second period of Manitoba’s win in Calgary. The forward, who was playing in his fourth contest with the Moose this season, finished the game with two points (1G, 1A) including the shorthanded marker. The last time Toninato recorded a shorthanded tally was Nov. 16/19 when he was a member of the Springfield Thunderbirds. Of the forward’s seven career AHL shorthanded goals, four of those, including the one in Manitoba’s most recent win, stood up as the game-winning tally.
Protector of the Piped Pavilion
Arvid Holm ended Tuesday’s contest with the win on the strength of 35 stops. Holm, a 2017 sixth round pick of Winnipeg, has wins over the course of his last three starts and hasn’t allowed more than two goals against in any of those contests. The netminder’s longest win streak is four games, which dates back to the 2021-22 campaign. The Ljungby, Sweden product has a record of 6-2-2 with a 2.55 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage so far this season. Among rookie AHL netminders, Holm’s wins, goals-against average and save percentage place him fifth, sixth and second respectively.
Pot Those Goals!
Jeff Malott scored a pair of goals in Manitoba’s win over Calgary on Tuesday. The forward, who re-signed a two-year, two-way contract with Winnipeg this summer, paces the club with 10 tallies and is the first Moose this season to reach double-digit goal totals. The multi-goal game represents the second time this season Malott has achieved the feat and the fifth time total over his Moose career. The Waterdown, Ont. product also leads the antlered ones with four power play markers this season and sits with 47 career AHL goals. Malott is currently shooting at a career-best 20.4 percentage and sits third in Moose scoring with 13 points (10G, 3A) in 20 games.
Offence from Defence
Leon Gawanke tallied two points (1G, 1A) in Manitoba’s win over Calgary. The defenceman is now up to 11 points (5G, 6A) over 18 games this season. He’s also second on the Moose blue line with a plus-six rating. The Berlin, Germany product paces the defencemen with two game-winning tallies and sits second to only forward Alex Limoges who has racked up three. The defenceman has three multi-point outings this season and is five goals away from matching his career-high of 10 that he set during the 2021-22 season. Gawanke leads the Moose defencemen with 47 shots and is currently firing at a career-best 10.6% shooting percentage.

Declan Chisholm tallied a pair of secondary helpers in Manitoba’s win over Calgary. The defenceman has now recorded three multi-point outings this season and sits with 12 points (3G, 9A) in 20 games. The 2018 Winnipeg Jets fifth round pick, has also set a new career-high in 2022-23 with three power play markers.
