Fast Facts: Moose vs. Belleville – Dec. 17

The Manitoba Moose return to Canada Life Centre for a brief, weekend stint on home ice. The team is back in Winnipeg following a 2-2-0-0 road swing through Western Canada. The club welcomes some more Canadian-based competition to town today, hosting the Belleville Senators. Today's game is the Teddy Bear Toss, presented by Booster Juice, in support of the Christmas Cheer Board. Fans are encouraged to bring new plush toys to the game to throw on the ice in the first intermission. A limited amount will also be available for purchase on the concourse with a donation to the Christmas Cheer Board. Tickets for today's 2 p.m. contest are available at MooseHockey.com/TICKETS.

Grab That Puck

Tyrel Bauer scored his first professional goal in the second period of Manitoba’s loss against Calgary on Thursday. The tally marks the defenceman’s first professional point. Bauer, a 2020 sixth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets, notched the tally in the 13th game of his professional career. The defenceman, who signed a three-year year-level contract with the Jets in 2022, spent last season with the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds and tallied 10 points (5G, 5A) in 32 contests. The Cochrane, Alta. product registered his first WHL marker Jan. 27/19 in a win against the Kamloops Blazers.

Skill on Special Teams

Manitoba’s penalty kill gave up a pair of markers on seven opportunities in Thursday’s loss in Calgary. Over the course of the past five games, the Moose have been shorthanded a total of 24 times and have only surrendered three goals over that span. The Moose penalty kill currently sits with a 84.0% percentage. When the Moose are home, the number turns to 82.6% and when Manitoba is on the road, the percentage jumps to 85.0%. League-wide the Moose penalty kill sits seventh in the AHL this season and second in the Central Division. Manitoba is also offensively dangerous while shorthanded and its three tallies this season ranks second in the division.

Heating Up

Declan Chisholm notched a secondary assist on the man advantage against Calgary on Thursday. The helper gives the defenceman three assists over his past two games. Chisholm, a 2018 fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets, currently stands at 13 points (3G, 10A) through 21 games played. The defenceman is nearly halfway to his career-high of 30 points which he set in 2021-22. The Bowmaville, Ont. product is second on the team with three power play goals and is tied for third on the squad with four assists on the man advantage. He also paces the Moose  blue line in points this campaign.

Set the Pace

Alex Limoges recorded a power play assist during Thursday night’s contest in Calgary. The forward’s helper was his team-leading 11th of the season and fifth assist on the power play. Limoges, who signed a one-year entry-level contract with Winnipeg in 2022, leads the antlered ones in scoring with 18 points (7G, 11A) through 19 contests. Three of his seven goals have stood as the game-winning tally, which also leads the Moose this season. Limoges is also first among active Moose forwards with a plus-seven rating. The forward is nearly halfway to the career-high 40 points that he set during the 2021-22 season with the San Diego Gulls.

Dominic Toninato registered a power play goal in Thursday’s loss in Calgary. The forward is up to three points (2G, 1A) in five games and has scored in consecutive games. The 2016 fifth round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs has one shorthanded marker, one power play goal and has one game-winning tally. He is the seventh Moose to score a game-winner this season.
