Leon the Professional
Leon Gawanke tallied a power play goal and an assist in Manitoba’s 6-2 victory over Belleville yesterday. The defender is now up to 13 points (6G, 7A) through 20 contests and sits second on the Moose defence corps in scoring. Gawanke, a fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2017, is also tied for second among defenders on the Moose and the league with three tallies on the man advantage. The Berlin, Germany product has three game-winning tallies this season, which is one off the career-high four he recorded during the 2021-22 season in 65 games.
Special Teams Saturday
Manitoba’s power play recorded a pair of goals in Saturday’s win over Belleville. The Moose have tallied a marker on the man advantage in three straight contests, two of which have resulted in Moose wins. Manitoba notched two power play goals in five separate contests this season and has a record of 4-0-0-1 if they hit that mark. Manitoba also recorded a shorthanded goal in the win over Belleville. The Moose have scored a goal with their own man in the box in two of their last three games, both of which have been victories. Four Moose skaters, Jansen Harkins, Dominic Toninato, Cole Maier and Nicholas Jones, have scored shorthanded this season and the Moose won all four games.
Back on the Board
Daniel Torgersson tallied his second goal of the season in Manitoba’s Saturday win. Along with the tally, the 2020 Winnipeg Jets second round pick recorded a career-high six shots on goal. The Hono, Sweden product has registered six points (2G, 4A) in 22 games this season, which puts him in a three-way tie for first overall in Moose rookie scoring. Torgersson has tallied nine points (4G, 5A) in 26 points over the course of his AHL career with Manitoba.
Multi-Goal Outings
Jeff Malott notched a pair of goals in Saturday afternoon’s victory. The Waterdown, Ont. product leads the team with 12 goals on the 2022-23 campaign and has registered five points (4G, 1A) over his past three contests. Malott,who re-signed to a two-year contract with Winnipeg in 2022, put together his third contest this season with multiple goals. The forward leads the Moose with five markers on the power play and is up to 16 points (12G, 4A) in 22 games this season. Over his AHL career, the forward now sits with 77 points (49G, 28A) in 118 contests and will be hunting for his 50th career AHL goal.

Alex Limoges registered three assists in Manitoba’s 6-2 win over Belleville on Saturday. It was the second time this season Limoges recorded three assists in a single game, with the Moose winning both. Limoges, who signed a one-year entry-level contract with Winnipeg this summer, paces the Moose with 21 points (7G, 14A) in 20 games.
