The Manitoba Moose return from the Holiday Break hoping to extend their four-game winning streak. The Moose will have to cool off the Abbotsford Canucks who come into the contest with wins in eight of their past 10 games. It's the Canucks' first visit to Canada Life Centre split their first two matchups of the season in Abbotsford.

Perfect Passer

Declan Chisholm tallied three assists in Manitoba’s win over Iowa on Friday. It is the second time in the past four contests that Chisholm has tallied three helpers, with both games resulting in Moose regulation victories. The Bowmanville, Ont. product sits second on the Moose with 21 points (3G, 18A) and ranks first among Moose blueliners in scoring. Over his past 10 contests, the defender has registered 12 assists. Chisholm, a fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2018, currently sits tied for seventh overall in scoring among AHL defencemen.

Power to the Polei

Evan Polei notched an assist in Manitoba’s win over Iowa on Dec. 23. The forward, who is in the midst of his second season with Manitoba, is currently riding a career-high four-game point streak that has seen him produce six points (2G, 4A). Polei, who inked a two-year contract with Manitoba in 2021, has registered 10 points (4G, 6A) in 24 games and sports a plus-nine rating, which is good for second overall on the squad. Polei has now hit double-digit point totals in two straight seasons and three times total in his AHL career.

Prep the Plane

Kristian Reichel was recalled by the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday morning. The forward, who re-signed a two-year contract with Winnipeg in 2022, has accumulated eight points (2G, 6A) in 25 games.  Reichel has tallied 60 total AHL points (27G, 33A) in 178 contests. The forward made his NHL debut with Winnipeg last season and recorded two points (1G, 1A) in 13 contests. Meanwhile, Manitoba recalled forward Joseph Nardi from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye. The forward, who is in the midst of his first professional season, has racked up 19 points (3G, 16A) in 27 games and sits third on the Walleye in scoring.

Power Play Prowess

Manitoba’s power play clicked for a pair of goals in Friday’s win over Iowa. Over their last four games, all of which have resulted in wins, the Moose have recorded six goals on the man-advantage. Three of those four wins saw Manitoba strike twice on the power play with Jeff Malott’s three markers leading the way. The Moose power play is ranked seventh in the AHL and clicks at 23.7% on the man advantage by way of 22 goals. In games the Moose score two or more power play goals, Manitoba has a 7-0-1-0 record. Malott leads the current iteration of the Moose with seven power play tallies, while Leon Gawanke paces antlered defenders with four of his own. Over the past three seasons, no Moose skater has more power play goals than Malott’s 21.

Jeff Malott is in the midst of a season-long six game point streak that has seen the forward tally nine points (7G, 2A) in that span. Malott has scored goals in four straight games and leads the antlered ones with seven markers on the power play. The forward leads the Moose with eight goals in the month of December and sits with 20 points (15G, 5A) in 25 contests.
