The Manitoba Moose try for their third straight win this afternoon when they host the Rockford IceHogs at 2 p.m. CT. The Moose came away with a 4-2 win over the IceHogs on Friday night. Both Dominic Toninato and Jeff Malott each had a goal and an assist in the victory.

It's the RCMP 150 game today as the Moose sport their first specialty jersey of the season. Tickets for today's 2 p.m. matchup are available at MooseHockey.c0m/TICKETS.

Toni Time

Dominic Toninato recorded two points (1G, 1A) against the IceHogs on Friday night. It’s the first multi-point outing of Toninato’s 2023-24 season and gives the forward six points (2G, 4A) through six contests. Toninato, who re-signed a two-year contract with Winnipeg in 2023, is riding a three-game point streak and has registered four points (1G, 3A) in that span. Toninato’s goal was also the 50th of his AHL career. The forward, a former Toronto 2012 fifth round selection, is inching closer to 100 career AHL points and has registered 94 points (50G, 44A) in 164 games split between San Antonio, Colorado, Springfield and Manitoba.

Closing In

Jeffrey Viel notched his first goal of the season on Friday. The marker was the first of his Moose career and held up as the game-winning goal, which is the forward’s first since the 2019-20 season with the San Jose Barracuda. Viel has posted three points (1G, 2A) through 16 games with the Moose. The winger is closing in on a pair of milestones and is four points shy of 100 in his AHL career, as well as being four goals away from 50 total.  When Viel records a point this season, the Moose are a perfect 3-0-0-0.

Malott of Points

Jeff Malott picked up a goal and an assist in Friday’s game. Malott has nine points (4G, 5A) over his past eight games. That brings the Waterdown, Ont. product up to 13 points (6G, 7A) in 16 games this season. Malott’s 0.81 points per game average is well clear of his career-high 0.66 points per game average set during 2021-22. The winger is on pace for 26 goals this season after recording 23 goals in each of the past two campaigns. Malott also leads the Moose with a plus-six rating and his 45 shots on goal are second on the club.

Penalty Kill Note of Indeterminate Title

The Moose penalty kill turned aside four of five Rockford opportunities on Friday. Over the past seven games the Manitoba penalty kill stopped 32 of the 37 power plays the team faced.  That’s good for a 86.5 percent success rate when operating down a man. During that span, the kill has three clean sheets including stopping all six Grand Rapids chances on Nov. 26. Overall, the Moose penalty kill has a 78.7 percent success rate and ranks 26th in the AHL. Manitoba has two shorthanded goals on the season, scored by Jeff Malott and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby.

Who's Trending?

Wyatt Bongiovanni netted a power play goal in Friday’s contest. The forward is riding a two-game point streak and has tallied three points (2G, 1A) in that span. Bongiovanni is now up to 11 points (5G, 6A) through 15 games and leads the Moose with four power play markers. The forward is currently shooting at a career-best 17.2 percent in 2023-24.
