Manitoba's return to Abbotsford last night wasn't a memorable visit for the Moose and they look to turn things around in the rematch. The high-powered Canucks offence posted an 8-2 win in yesterday's tilt. The Moose close out a four-game road swing and run of five games in seven nights. Coverage of this evening's clash gets going at 8:45 p.m. CT on CJOB.com/sports, AHLTV and the Manitoba Moose App.

On the Cusp

Declan Chisholm made his return to the Moose lineup last night and made an immediate impact. The defenceman registered his 11th assist of the season on Leon Gawanke’s first period power play goal. In doing so, Chisholm tied his previous career-high which was set last season with the Moose during the 2020-21 campaign. The Bowmanville, Ont. product already set new professional career-high numbers this Moose campaign with six goals and 17 points. The defenceman is also riding a three-game point streak that dates back to Jan. 23 at Chicago. Chisholm has registered three assists in that span. That streak ties the longest of his professional career to date which lasted three games and began on March 6/21 before ending on March 10/21.

Park It and Move On

Throughout the 2021-22 Moose season, the team has been consistent when dealing with losses. Manitoba has lost two games just three times this season. The first set came against Iowa on Oct. 31 and at Milwaukee Nov. 5. The Moose responded with a 5-1 win over the Central leading Chicago the following night to get back in the win column. The second instance was Dec. 16 at Chicago and Dec. 17 at Iowa. Manitoba avoided the third loss in a row by facing Iowa again and coming out victorious to the tune of 2-1. The Moose dropped their second straight game last night and look to avoid losing three in a row for the first time.

Saturday’s Alright

The Moose come into tonight’s matchup with a sparkling 9-2-0-0 record in games scheduled on Saturday. Forward Cole Maier is a big fan of the first day of the weekend, recording 10 points (5G, 5A) in 10 Saturday games. That accounts for 52 percent of Maier’s total point production in 26 percent of his games played. To top it off, nine of his 10 points come from goals or primary assists. Forward Greg Meireles has appeared in all 11 Saturday outings, recording seven points (2G, 5A) in those games. Between the pipes, Mikhail Berdin has the most Saturdays under his belt with a 4-1-0 record supported by a 2.21 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage.

Mighty Meireles

Forward Greg Meireles racked his 17th assist of the season in last night’s loss. The helper pushed his overall point total to 20 on the campaign. The rookie forward is tied for third on the Moose in points alongside Jeff Malott. Meireles leads Manitoba rookies and is tied for 25th among the circuit’s first-year skaters. The Ottawa, Ont. product is a consistent producer for Manitoba, never going more than four games without recording a point. Meireles signed a one-year contract with the Moose this past off-season.

Who's Trending?

Todd Burgess notched his sixth goal of the season in Manitoba’s 8-2 loss yesterday. Burgess is riding a five-game point streak that started on Jan. 29 against Abbotsford and has recorded five points (1G, 4A) in that span. The forward is up to 12 points (6G, 6A) in 26 games in his AHL rookie season.
