Home Sweet Home

The Manitoba Moose enjoy the comforts of playing at Canada Life Centre. With the overtime win in yesterday’s contest, the boys in antlers are a pristine 15-3-0-1 at home this season. The Moose own an .816 winning percentage at home which is tops in the AHL. The next closest to the Moose is the Ontario Reign, who check in with a .810 mark when skating on their home turf. Manitoba is led by Leon Gawanke, who paces the team in scoring with 25 points and has 14 points (3G, 11A) at home. The Moose franchise record for wins at home in a season is 25, achieved three times throughout the years.

A Tale of Twos

The Moose game against the Admirals yesterday was played on Feb. 20/22, or 02-20-22. The contest started a 2 p.m. CT. With the win, the Moose remain in second place in the AHL’s Central Division. Manitoba put together 22 shots on goal in the first period. The Moose and Admirals combined to record 22 shots in the second period. Manitoba also led 2-0 after two periods. Cole Maier’s goal was his 20th point of the season. Admirals forward Rocco Grimaldi had three secondary assists, with the last one being his 22nd of the season. 22-year old forward Cody Glass scored Milwaukee’s second goal of the game on the Admirals’ 20th shot. Dean Stewart, who tied the game late on the power play, wears the number two for the Moose this season. To cap everything off, Jeff Malott scored the overtime goal for his second career extra time winner. It was the second time this season the Moose topped the Admirals in overtime.

Hitting Milestones

The Moose win yesterday signified a pair of milestones for two separate Manitoba skaters. Cole Maier recorded his 10th goal of the season in the second period. The goal marked the first time the forward has hit double-digit goal totals in his professional career. Maier now has 20 points (10G, 10A) in 40 games this season, marking his first time reaching the plateau. Dean Stewart recorded a milestone of his own with his first career AHL goal in the third period. Stewart, whose first AHL assist came on Jan. 30 against Abbotsford, fired home the tying goal on the power play in the latter half of the third period. Manitoba went on to take the contest in overtime.

Helping Hand

Declan Chisholm recorded two aassists in the Moose overtime win yesterday. That gives the defenceman a new career-high with 13 helpers on the season. Chisholm is now up 19 points (6G, 13A) in 34 games and is tied for 31st overall in AHL scoring by defencemen this season. Chisholm was a fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2018.

Forward Jeff Malott notched the overtime winner for his 13th goal of the season in Manitoba’s 4-3 extra time victory. It was Malott’s second career overtime winner and first this season. The forward is now up to 21 points (13G, 8A) through 35 games and is tied for second in Moose overall scoring. He leads the Moose in goals.
