Fast Facts: Moose vs. Milwaukee – Feb. 23

The Moose and Admirals clash in the rubber-match of their three-game set tonight at Canada Life Centre. German Efficiency

Leon Gawanke’s offensive production has been a bright spot for the Manitoba Moose this season. The defenceman currently leads the Moose with 26 points (8G, 18A) through 39 games this season. Gawanke loves playing against the Milwaukee Admirals, scoring half of his eight goals against the Central Division foes. He also leads the squad with 10 points (4G, 6A) in seven games against the Admirals this season. The defender is on currently riding a hot streak and has tallies in two straight games and has recorded seven points (3G, 4A) over his last seven games played. The Berlin, Germany, product’s eight goals also lead all Moose defencemen this season.

That’s Malott of Goals

Jeff Malott has been a welcome addition back into the Moose lineup. The forward, who missed a handful of games due to injury, made his return to the Moose on Sunday and promptly netted the game’s overtime winner. It was the second extra time winner of the forward’s professional career. Malott picked up right where he left off the next day and opened the scoring with his 14th of the season on the man advantage. Malott’s 14th ties his previous career-high which was set in his rookie year in 2020-21 with Manitoba. The Burlington, Ont. product has goals in four consecutive games played, scoring five times in that span. It’s the second time in his career Malott has scored in four straight outings.

Clicking on the Power Play

The Moose power play has found its groove the last handful of games. Manitoba has recorded a goal on the man advantage in six consecutive games and eight of its last nine contests. The run started on Jan. 29 in a home contest against the Abbotsford Canucks and has carried all the way to Monday’s game against Milwaukee. In the game on Feb. 21, both Moose goals were scored on the power play. It was the third time this season the Moose have scored two goals on the man-advantage. During that span, the Moose power play is operating at 25 percent.

Wednesday Warriors

Manitoba has now played a game on every day of the week and has suited up six times this season for Wednesday contests. Two Moose defecemen and one forward has suited up in all six mid-week games this season, with each member of the trio recording a point. Jimmy Oligny (1G), Simon Lundmark (3A) and Greg Meireles (3A) all have points on Wednesdays while the team is lead by forward David Gustafsson who has seven points (3G, 4A) in just three mid-week outings. Wednesday hasn’t been Manitoba’s favourite day of the week, coming into tonight’s game with a 2-4-0-0 record in the six games.

Forward Mikey Eyssimont notched an assist  in Manitoba’s 4-2 loss on Monday against Milwaukee. Eyssimont has two assists his last three games played and is now up to 18 points (8G, 10A) through 32 games this season. His career-high came in 2019-20 with the AHL’s Ontario Reign where he recorded 28 points (12G, 16A) in 56 games.
