The Manitoba Moose host the Belleville Senators today at Canada Life Centre (2 p.m.). Manitoba is coming off a pair of losses to the Texas Stars to close out 2023. Brad Lambert and Ashton Sautner scored for the Moose in the defeat. Meanwhile the Senators come in having won four straight contests. Speeding Up the Charts
Brad Lambert notched a pair of points (1G, 1A) in Manitoba’s most recent contest. The forward has recorded multi-point outings in four of his past six games played and leads the entire Moose squad with seven on the campaign. Lambert, a 2022 Winnipeg first round selection, co-leads the Moose in scoring with 23 points (11G, 12A) in 25 games. The Lahti, Finland native is the first Moose skater this season to reach the double-digit goal plateau and is tied for the team lead with four markers coming on the power play. The rookie pivot ranks sixth in the AHL among first-year skaters in terms of overall points.
Roster Moves
The Moose recalled forward Thomas Caron from the ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals on Thursday. Caron has posted 14 points (5G, 9A) through 29 games with the Admirals this season. The Candiac, Que. product played with the Moose each of the past two seasons, accumulating eight points (3G, 5A) in 47 career AHL contests, all with Manitoba. The 2022-23 campaign saw the winger record two assists in seven games with the Moose, while tallying seven points (3G, 4A) in 17 ECHL games with Trois-Rivieres.
Point Streakin’
Jeff Malott posted an assist against Texas on Sunday. The forward is currently riding a six-game point streak and has accumulated six points (1G, 5A) in that span. The winger has registered a six-game point streak twice in his career, once in the 2021-22 season and the second time during the 2022-23 campaign. Malott paces the current Moose roster over the 2023 calendar year in both goals (16) and total points (45). The Waterdown, Ont. product is currently tied for third on the Moose in scoring this season with 21 points (8G, 13A) in 26 games. The winger has recorded 126 points (68G, 58A) in 193 career AHL contests.
Walk the (Blue) Line
Kyle Capobianco posted an assist in Manitoba’s most recent outing. The defenceman is riding a three-game point streak and has recorded three points (1G, 2A) in that span. Capobianco is tied for 12th in scoring among AHL defenders and is tied for third among all Moose skaters with 21 points (6G, 15A) in 25 games. Looking back to the 2022-23 season and the first game of the 2023 calendar year, Capobianco’s 21 points puts him one of back of current Winnipeg Jet Declan Chisholm’s pace previous pace of 22 points at the time. In addition, the Mississauga, Ont. product’s six goals place him one off of Leon Gawanke’s seven goals from 2022-23. Gawanke went on to pot 20 goals in 68 games.

Ashton Sautner scored a third period goal against Texas on Sunday. The defender has found the back of the net in consecutive contests and set a new career-high with his fifth of the season. Sautner, who recently skated in his 400th professional game, has tallied nine points (5G, 4A) in 27 contests and is shooting at a career-best 14.7% in 2023-24.
