The Manitoba Moose seek to snap a three-game losing skid when they rematch with the Belleville Senators this afternoon. The Senators claimed a 3-1 win at Canada Life Centre yesterday afternoon, powered by Graham McPhee and Josh Currie's multi-point outings. Jeffrey Viel scored the lone Moose goal in the loss. Milestone Marker

Jeffrey Viel scored the lone Moose goal in Manitoba’s contest yesterday for his 10th point (5G, 5A) of the season. The forward, who inked a one-year contract with Winnipeg in 2023, has now hit the double-digit point plateau for the fourth time in his AHL career. The winger’s goal on Saturday was his first power play marker of the season and the 50th total goal of his AHL career. Viel ranks eighth overall in Moose scoring over the campaign. Between San Jose and Manitoba, the Rimouski, Que. product has registered 103 career points (50G, 53A) in 237 contests.

Points on the Board

Kristian Reichel notched an assist against the Belleville Senators on Saturday. The winger’s assist came on the power play and represents Reichel’s first point on the man-advantage in the 2023-24 campaign. The forward, who re-signed a two-year contract with Winnipeg in 2022, has tallied seven points (4G, 3A) in 27 contests and ranks sixth on the team with 51 shots on goal. The Litvinov, Czechia native has registered 83 career AHL points (38G, 45A) in 241 games, all with Manitoba.

Back-to-Back

The Moose come into their seventh back-to-back of the season with a 3-3-0-0 record in the previous six occurrences. The team is 1-2-0-0 when playing the second game of a back-to-back on home ice. Parker Ford (4G, 2A), Kyle Capobianco (3G, 3A) and Nikita Chibrikov (1G, 5A) all lead the club with six points each in the second game of back-to-backs. Meanwhile Jeff Malott (2G, 5A) and Chibrikov (2G, 5A) lead the team with seven points on zero days of rest. The Moose are 9-3-0-0 in the second game of two-game sets against the same opponent this season, and 5-1-0-0 in that situation on Sundays.

Cashing In

The Manitoba power play is consistently finding the back of the over the past seven games. The Moose have power play goals in six of the past seven games. That included a run of four straight games from Dec. 17 to Dec. 23. The antlered ones are 6/21 over that span, good for a 28.6 percent success rate. Overall, the Moose are 22.2 percent on the power play, good for sixth in the AHL. Brad Lambert leads the Moose with 12 points (4G, 8A) on the power play this season and has been involved in each of the team’s previous three power play goals.

In addition, the pivot paces the Moose with eight power play assists and sits sixth in the AHL in the rookie scoring race.
