March Madness

The Moose picked up their 30th win of the season when they rolled over the Belleville Senators on March 12. A big part of that win was the play of Johnathan Kovacevic. The defenceman recorded three points (1G, 2A) in the 6-1 victory and finished the game with a plus-three rating. It was the defender’s first three-point AHL contest. The Grimsby, Ont. product’s first period tally was his ninth goal of the season, which currently leads all Moose defencemen. Kovacevic has been on an impressive run to start the month with seven points (2G, 5A) in the first four games of March to lead the Moose.

Clutch Hutch

Nick Hutchison scored his first AHL goal on March 11 in a 4-3 shootout loss against Belleville. The forward, who is on a professional tryout with the Moose, followed up that performance by scoring his second goal in as many games the following day. Hutchison now has three points (2G, 1A) over the course of nine games with the Moose this season. Hutchison is starting to heat up with all three of those points coming in the forward’s past four games played.

Cole’d as Ice

Cole Maier has been just as hot as Kovacevic this month. The forward is currently in the middle of a season-high, five-game point streak while recording six points (3G, 3A) in that span. He co-leads the Moose with three goals in March and his five points are second on the club. Maier has registered 27 points (14G, 13A) in 48 games this season with Manitoba. All three of those numbers represent career highs for the forward, who also has two game-winning goals, two power play goals and one shorthanded marker to his credit.

Soaring to New Heights

Jeff Malott continues to rack up goals for the Moose. The forward iced the most recent Manitoba win with two goals in the third period on Saturday. The forward is riding as three-game point streak while recording five points (3G, 2A) in that time. Malott has two multi-point games in his past three contests and features six multi-point outings this season. The forward has registered 27 points (17G, 10A) over 43 games. The 17 goals put him at the top of Moose goal scoring list and all three of the goals, assists and point totals represent new career highs for the forward. Malott has 11 points (6G, 5A) on the power play and his five game-winning goals rank first among Moose skaters.
