Fast Facts: Moose at Rockford – March 26

By: Manitoba Moose Staff | Published: March 26th 2022

The Moose play the finale of their seven-game road trip this evening in a delayed rematch against the Rockford IceHogs. The reason for that delay was a stop in Chicago where the Moose fell 4-3 to the Wolves in overtime. Manitoba is 3-1-2-0 on the swing, grabbing points in all but one game. That one game was Wednesday's 5-3 loss in Rockford. Coverage of tonight's game begins at 5:45 p.m. CT on CJOB.com/sports, AHLTV and the Manitoba Moose App. Puck drop is slated for 6 p.m. on 680 CJOB.

Searing Hot Streak

Mikey Eyssimont is sizzling hot this month. The forward has scored goals in four straight games and recorded 12 points (6G, 6A) through 10 games in March.  Four of those contests saw Eyssimont record multi-point outings. In yesterday’s overtime loss, Eysismont recorded three points (1G, 2A) and now leads the Moose in scoring with 32 points (14G, 18A) in 45 games. The three-point contest is the third such outing in the Littleton, Col. product’s career. The forward, who started his Moose career with three goals in his first three games, is currently on a four-game streak that represents the longest of his career to date. Eyssimont currently sits with 98 points (45G, 53A) in his AHL career.

The Final Stretch

The Moose game in Rockford tonight represents the end of a seven-game road trip for the antlered ones. No strangers to long trips, Manitoba had a pair of six-game road trips, with the current seven-game swing being the longest trip of the 2021-22 campaign. So far on the trip the Moose hold a 3-1-2-0 mark, which is just shy of the club’s best six-game road stretch at 4-1-1-0 set from Jan. 7-19. Mikey Eyssimont leads the team with eight points (4G, 4A) in the six contests while Dylan Samberg (4A), David Gustafsson (1G, 3A) and C.J. Suess (3G, 1A) each have four points.

Home Ice Advantage

The Moose and IceHogs have met four times this season heading into tonight’s game. The season series sits in a 2-2 split, with the home team winning each game. The Moose have been much more successful offensively on home ice, recording 12 goals in two games. Meanwhile, in Rockford, the Moose have just six tallies to their name. IceHogs netminders have a hand in that with a combined .922 save percentage, stopping 71 of 77 Manitoba shots at BMO Harris Bank Center. This season, Manitoba is 19-6-0-2 on home ice while Rockford is 14-12-2-0 in friendly territory.

Racking 'Em Up

Jeff Malott comes into tonight’s contest with 30 points (19G, 11A) in 48 games. In yesterday’s overtime loss, Malott recorded two points (1G, 1A) for his team-high seventh multi-point game this season. Malott, who made his NHL debut with the Winnipeg Jets on March 20 in Chicago, leads Manitoba in goals and was the second Moose to hit 30-points on the season. The Burlington, Ont. product. owns seven power play goals and leads the Moose with six game-winning tallies. The forward is also perfect in the shootout this campaign, succeeding in both attempts when called upon.

Who's Trending?

C.J. Suess recorded a goal in the second period of Manitoba’s overtime loss to Chicago yesterday. Suess returned from injury March 3. Since then he has six points (4G, 2A) in 10 games and goals in two of his past three outings. The forward has 18 points (8G, 10A) in 33 games and owns one power play tally and one game-winner this season.
