The Manitoba Moose look to to shake out of a two-game slide when they host the Abbotsford Canucks tonight at 7 p.m. Despite the teams holding the same number of points, the Canucks have already clinched their spot in the playoffs while the Moose are five points away from clinching. Manitoba holds a 2-3-1-0 record against Abbotsford this season, picking up three out of four points in their previous visit to B.C. 200 in the Books
Leon Gawanke appeared in his 200th career AHL contest in Tuesday’s game against Laval. With a couple hundred games under his belt, the Berlin, Germany product has racked up 106 points (30G, 76A). Gawanke set new career-high numbers this season with 15 goals and 37 points. The defenceman also notched career-best categories with seven power play markers and three game-winning goals. In addition, the 155 shots on goal and 9.7 shooting percentage are also new marks for the Winnipeg 2017 fifth round pick.
Delightful Debut
Parker Ford, who recently inked his two-year, entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets, made his professional debut with Manitoba on Tuesday. The forward scored his first career goal in the third period by batting the puck out of mid-air. Prior to his debut with the Moose, Ford played for the Providence College Friars in Hockey East (NCAA) where he recorded 26 points (12G, 14A) and 22 penalty minutes in 37 games. The Wakefield, RI native played 131 games over four seasons with Providence College and recorded 94 total points (41G, 53A).
Solid Season
Dominic Toninato posted an assist in the first period of Tuesday’s contest. The assist, his 12th of the season, places the forward at 29 points (17G, 13A), which matches his career-high from 2018-19 during his time with the Colorado Eagles. Toninato achieved the mark in 14 less games this time around. The pivot, a fifth round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2012, is riding a three-game point streak while producing four points (1G, 3A). In addition to a new career-high mark in points, the centreman has five power play, five game-winning tallies and 102 shots, which are all career-bests.
