The Manitoba Moose close out a five-game road swing tonight against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Manitoba dropped a 3-0 decision to the Griffins last night as Jussi Olkinuora made 26 saves for the shutout. We’re Going Back-to-Back
Heading into this weekend’s clashes with Grand Rapids, the Moose have a perfect 4-0-0-0 record in the second game of back-to-backs. Manitoba has an even split of two wins on the road and home. The club also added a win in the third game of a three-in-three set. A quartet of Moose lead the way points wise in back-to-back games with Declan Chisholm (1G, 3A), Jansen Harkins (2G, 2A), Alex Limoges (1G, 3A) and Kevin Stenlund (1G, 3A) all contributing four points. Manitoba will play 16 more back-to-back games this season with the split being six at home and 10 on the road.
Shake it Off
Manitoba’s 3-0 loss against Grand Rapids was the first time during the 2022-23 season the Moose failed to tally a goal in a contest. Dating back to last season, the Moose were blanked twice by their opponents. The first came on Nov. 12/21 in Grand Rapids against the Griffins where Manitoba fell 2-0. The Moose responded with a 6-2 win the following night on the back of a four-goal first period. Jeff Malott (1G, 1A) and Cole Maier (1G, 1A) led the way with a pair of points each. The second instance came on March 26/22 when the Moose lost 4-0 in Rockford. Manitoba came back and won its next contest 3-2 in Milwaukee. Nicholas Jones posted two assists and Malott recorded the game-winning goal in the third.
Tale of Two Road Trips
The Moose close out their five-game road swing tonight in Grand Rapids. The first four games saw a marked difference in goal production for Manitoba. The Moose opened the swing scoring eight goals in two games against the Texas Stars. That continued off the team’s first three road games, when the antlered ones tallied 16 total goals. Since then, the Moose have scored once in the past two games. The team recorded 57 shots across those two outings for an opposing goaltender save percentage of 0.982.
That’s Just Prime
The Moose have recorded 71 total assists during the 2022-23 campaign. Out of the 49 goals scored by Manitoba on the campaign, all but seven featured at least one assist. However, just 29 goals saw the Moose record two assists on the tallies. Manitoba is currently without two of its top primary assist accumulators with Ville Heinola and Mikey Eyssimont currently in the NHL. Heinola leads the team with five primary assists while Eyssimont is tied with Alex Limoges and Kevin Stenlund with four primary helpers. Limoges paces the club with four secondary assists.
