Fast Facts: Moose vs. Iowa – Oct. 21

The Manitoba Moose and Iowa Wild clash for the second time in less than 24 hours this evening at Canada Life Centre (6 p.m.). The Wild grabbed the first meeting by a 4-2 count, scoring twice in the both the second and third periods. Kyle Capobianco and Brad Lambert each tallied for the Moose.

Capping it Off
Kyle Capobianco tallied his first points in antlers on Friday evening. The defenceman opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first period, before adding a helper on Brad Lambert’s goal late in the third. Capobianco, a 2015 Arizona third round pick, notched his first multi-point game of the campaign and 22nd of his AHL career. The defenceman has racked up at least one power play goal in every full AHL season he has skated in and has registered 114 points (22G, 92A) in 158 contests.
Finnish Your Chances
Brad Lambert posted two points (1G, 1A) yesterday against the Wild. The centre has scored a goal in each of the first three games and has multi-point outings in two of his past three. Lambert, a 2022 Winnipeg first round pick, paces the Moose with five points (3G, 2A) and is tied for first on the squad with two power play assists. Lambert’s three-game point streak is tied for the longest of his career. In addition, the pivot leads all AHL rookies in points and stands 11th overall in scoring among all skaters this season.
Rack ‘Em Up
Nine Moose skaters recorded multiple shots on goal in last night’s contest, with five of them tallying at least three attempts on goal. Leading the way were forward Nikita Chibrikov and defenceman Artemi Kniazev who each posted six shots on goal. It’s the fourth time in Kniazev’s AHL career he recorded six or more shots in a game. His career high is seven, which the Russian defender tallied twice. Chibrikov isn’t wasting any time putting up high shot totals, it was the second time in as many games the rookie forward tallied six shots. Chibrikov leads the Moose with 15 shots in three games and paces AHL rookies in the category.
Power Play with Pop
The Moose power play is clicking early in the season with a 30.8 percent success rate. Manitoba has at least one power play goal in all three games on the campaign. Working with an extra skater has been crucial for the Moose early, with five of the team’s seven goals coming in an advantaged situation. The club has four power play goals and one goal scored with the goalie on the bench for an extra attacker. Manitoba set a new franchise record in 2022-23 with a 22.7 percent success rate on the power play

Parker Ford posted a first period power play assist last night against the Wild. It was the forward’s first point of the campaign. Ford made his Moose debut in 2022-23, scoring a goal in his debut against the Laval Rocket. Ford went on to post four points (2G, 2A) in eight contests. In addition, the winger suited up in five Moose post-season contests.
